Former flight attendant of Qatar Airways found her luck with Eggluck

It’s really crazy how this pandemic had brought out the worst but sometimes, it does bring out the best in us. This 29-year-old former flight attendant of Qatar Airways found her luck with “Eggluck”. For almost four years of boarding the skies; now, she sells egg sandwiches and rides her jeep all around Ilocos Norte.

COVID-19 brought every line of businesses down in a blitz and the aviation industry has been hit the most. The ongoing restrictions and travel bans enforced by the authorities led to the reduction of fleet counts, not to mention employees; Angel Luck Pedro is one of them.

According to Pedro, it was February 7th of last year when she started her business by only selling Korean egg sandwiches at home with a food cart.

But to go from one place to another, draw Angel an idea of getting a food truck. Luckily, she was able to find one from a jeepney driver whose income was also badly affected during the pandemic who sold his vehicle to Angel.

With a budget amounting to 200,000 she had her jeep transformed into a mobile food stall. May 7th of 2021, Angel started rolling out the roads of Ilocos Norte with her “food jeep”.

With her deaf and mute brother Alan Joshua Pedro IV who has a passion for cooking, he became her sister’s pillar to achieve the perfect sandwich recipe in pursuit of the business.

“With the help of my brother who is deaf and mute, siya… siya ‘yung cook ngayon. Mahilig din siya magluto. Siya yung tumulong sakin para ma-achieve ‘yung gusto naming recipe.”

Her travels abroad especially to South Korea and LA inspired this former flight attendant to put up her brand of egg sandwich business in the Philippines.

Each egg sandwich cost around P59 to P99. Before the province was positioned to a stricter quarantine, she sells 150 sandwiches per day that earns her up to P6, 000 a day.

“I wanted people to try it as well”.  As to Angel, they tried to replicate the ingredients but gave a more Filipino twist to it.

Behind the success of their business today, she admits the struggles they faced daily since both of them are not financially stable; then, add up the restrictions placed by the authorities. It is hard to do business now especially with this crisis.

Amidst all these, Angel remains hopeful to see the business expanding by building more food jeepney and having its physical store in Manila in the future.

Her determination proves that the sky is the limit.

Let this crisis be the nesting place of your dreams. They say even a piece of broken glass could still shine as bright as a star, so why can’t you? Keep your dreams up!
