How long does it take to be a Flight Attendant

Flight Attendants have a lot of responsibilities on their shoulders. They are responsible for more than just assisting the passengers, and serving good meals. They also have to ensure the safety of every passenger. It is not an easy job, Flight Attendants have to go through a lot before becoming one. From the application process, training, and not to mention the waiting game. If you are curious to know how long does it take to be a Flight Attendant then this one is for you.

This may vary depending on the airlines.

APPLICATION
The primary purpose of the application is to give the company a background about the applicant. This plays a pivotal role in every hiring process as the company relies on your application form whether or not you will be accepted for an interview— writing a good resume will increase your chance to participate in an interview. Keep it short and easy to read!

WAITING GAME
After the application, the waiting game begins. In applying for a job waiting for a response is indeed thrilling and at the same time frustrating. Somehow you feel anxious wondering if your application has been successful. It is only normal to feel this way, you just have to bear with it. Keep in mind that “Our willingness to wait reveals the value we place on what we are waiting for” – Charles Stanley.

Accepted or not, what’s important is that you tried and will try again. After all, no one creates a perfect application on their first try.

INTERVIEW
Luck is with you if you got accepted for an interview. It only takes a few hours for you to be interviewed. This part is crucial because in a short period you have to show your employer that you have what it takes to be a Flight Attendant. Make sure you are well prepared and presentable on the day of your interview.

TRAINING
This is where it all begins. After a couple of weeks spent in the application process, waiting and interviewing, once accepted you must undergo training. Training usually takes three to six weeks but then again it varies depending on the airline. Some even take a few more months to complete the training. You have to remember that training is the most important part of being a Flight Attendant as this will determine your capability for your desired position.

FIRST FLIGHT AND CHECKRIDE
Once you are done with the training you need to take your first flight. This is to let you experience the real situation on board and be able to apply what you have learned during your training. Subsequently, you need to pass the check-ride. The check-ride is when the cabin crew manager will check on you while you are doing your job in the cabin. After you pass all these then you are off to graduation day!

You have to have patience when pursuing this job. Starting from the application up until graduation will take you months or even years before you can finally live the dream. Regardless of how long it takes for you to be a Flight Attendant, what matters is your eagerness to wait and learn. Nothing worth having comes easy!
