I got nervous when I applied as a cabin crew in a local airline

DID YOU GET NERVOUS WHEN YOU APPLIED AS A FLIGHT ATTENDANT?

For me, yes, and I am certain that you will too.

But before I talk about it, let me ask you this: think about the last time you got nervous. What was it about? Was it about something you had to do? Something you had to say? Or you were meeting someone perhaps?

It may be for various reasons but try to think about it. Most of the time, you get nervous because that moment or something that you are going to experience is of great importance to you in one way or another. You might be performing, taking an exam, attending a meeting, waiting for an outcome, preparing for the future or even admitting to your long time friend that you have fallen madly and deeply in love with them. Bottom line, these moments are of immense value to you.

Definition of nervousness

I define nervousness as “standing on the precipice of doing something great.”

Precipice is defined as being on the edge of a cliff or somewhere steep like a mountain. It is also described as a dangerous situation that can lead to failure. But other than a moment that could direct you to fail, it is also an opportunity to achieve greatness. That is why one is nervous. Think about it, you feel uneasy when things are important. And with regard to success, that moment of greatness is of tremendous value that is why there are risks that have to be taken, actions to be done; that standing on the precipice is not enough – one must take a step forward.

To some people who are taken over by their nerves, they miss an opportunity to be great. Some don’t even do anything at all. They allow themselves to be consumed by the fear to continue on. It hinders them to forge ahead. And if you look at it, that may even be the real definition of failure, to not even try.

True greatness is accomplished because of the journey towards the goal

I totally understand how scary it would be. How daunting standing at the precipice is. And if you decide not to do anything about it, it’s entirely okay. But I do hope that you do not let yourself be overpowered by your nerves for it might lead to regrets in the future. If ever you fail, it might be the necessary step towards that bigger purpose. Which is still a win – win in my book. Use that nervousness as motivation to do your best. Do not falter and move forward. Allow yourself to try to achieve greatness. Because sometimes true greatness is accomplished because of the journey towards the goal. And obtaining that objective would just be the icing on the cake.

Going back, I did get nervous during my flight attendant application? Yes.

But did it stop me from moving forward? No.

That nervousness was fuel for me to do my best. Because like what I said, what I was doing that time – my application – was very important to me. And when the time comes that you will get your turn to apply and you get nervous, don’t worry, it means you are towards the path of success. And you are ready to achieve greatness – towards that flight attendant dream.
