Tips to become a flight attendant for Emirates

Every job becomes rewarding if you’re passionate about what you’re doing.  Hence, you can do anything at your best if you love your job. Being a flight attendant is one of the dream jobs that many desire. To work and to travel the world at the same time for almost free is one of the best compensations anyone could receive. To become an international flight attendant for an airline like Emirates is another.

There are hundreds of airline companies where you can register yourself and make your dream happen, just like Princess Jasmine “PJ” Tiongson who found her dream home in the skies with Emirates. If you have this dream, keep track of PJ’s experience!

BE A TEAM PLAYER

“Based on my experience, when I joined Emirates, they always look for candidates who are team players.” Team players have a strong background in communication, collaborative, an active listener, and has the skills in problem-solving. Since Emirates is a multinational airline, you must be flexible to work well with your peers from all over the world.

UNLEARN AND RELEARN

Experience is not always an advantage. As an experienced flight attendant, you have to make room to unlearn what you’ve learned from the previous airlines and make room for the new ones because not all have the same work service, standards, and culture. “There were flight attendants from other airlines who did not get accepted even they are experienced.”

One of the most important things a flight attendant should keep in mind is to show humility and professionalism through the overall conduct.

Be mindful of your body language; always be respectful to those you speak with by giving them the undivided attention they deserve especially when addressing the passenger’s concern. These are the things they observe as well, said PJ.

BE A GOOD LISTENER

In every company, confidence is one of the winning traits as an employee; somehow, you have to level that confidence depending on the people you’re speaking whether a co-worker or a passenger. Maintain your professionalism as you speak to different people and be participative during the group dynamic sessions to establish a good rapport with the team.

HAVE AN OPEN MIND

Be a sponge and be broad about your learnings. Don’t limit yourself on the technicalities of the job. It is very important to learn how to deal with other people especially other nationalities because by learning a little bit of everything, you’ll survive anywhere. Emirates is a Muslim airline so take advantage to learn the Muslim culture while you’re still building yourself for this job.

PREPARE FOR YOUR INTERVIEW

Do your own research and keenly study Emirates if you badly want to get in. Keep yourself humble; show respect, and keep your professionalism at all times.

ATTITUDE IS KEY.

At the end of the day, A.T.T.I.T.U.D.E   will always equal to 100%

Emirates is one of the top leading flight providers in the world and still upholds its standard when it comes to flight performance. As to PJ, the Emirates training college sets a high standard for learning in the aviation industry. “Everything is provided, and what I appreciate the most are the clarity conciseness and the system of my training. ‘The training facility itself is top-notch” that even Etihad holds their aircraft evacuation training at Emirates.”

“When they teach you to arm, disarm a door… you ARM and DISARM an ACTUAL AIRCRAFT DOOR- even inflate a slide!” With the flight simulator, the turbulence felt so real!

The actual learning she acquired during her training gave him an idea of how to deal with different kinds of emergencies that might occur during the flight. The skies can be deceiving sometimes and you can’t say that you’re safe at all times so you have to be prepared before you step inside the plane. Once you’re there, there’s no turning back. According to her, the instructors are from Emirates themselves from all over the world”.

As a flight attendant, it’s not just about glamour. With patience and keeping an open mind, this will set you far. There may be destinations that may not be appealing as compared to more popular ones, but they can be hectic.

Being a flight attendant is very challenging. However, consider these experiences a blessing because not all were privileged to travel as much as the flight attendant does.

Take advantage of the chance to know people and their culture. “This is what makes the job so special” PJ said.

The job requires a healthy mind and body. With the duties onboard, late nights, and the time zones, any flight attendant knows how stressful the job can be.

The key to being a successful Flight Attendant is to have a strong mind and heart wherever you fly. You don’t always see the blue and white skies. There will be days that it could be windy, cloudy, and a bumpy flight might occur along the way; but as an Emirates Flight attendant, you need to have the quality of “Braveheart” in you. Living abroad has its own perks but it can also feel lonely at times. If you feel like loneliness is crawling at you, always remember why you had this dream in the first place.

“I had the best years of my life as Emirates Flight Attendant and I will always be proud to share my experiences with anyone I meet”.
