This was exactly what happened to this flight attendant’s bakery business where she started from a few products serving a niche market to a wider range of products. This is the #asensocabincrew story of Cebu Pacific flight attendant Airra Tan’s business named Golden Oven.
Golden Oven’s humble beginnings
It all started from a niche-market bakery that caters to breastfeeding mothers. These baked goodies are for breastfeeding moms who want to increase their breastmilk supply. Golden Oven started in 2017, selling lactation treats like cookies, brownies, and crinkles. Then 2018 lactation drinks were also added to the menu. These are all for breastfeeding moms who want to boost their liquid gold breastmilk. Regular treats are also offered for their children and husband who keeps on stealing their lactation treats.
“During my free time I used to bake bread for personal consumption and I share it with my neighbors and friend,” Airra shares.
The year 2020 became a challenging year for Airra and her business, but it presented other opportunities as well to expand her business.
Golden Oven products
“During ECQ (Enhanced Community Quarantine), all our resources are shut down; no income. I started to bake bread, I kept on trying and learning. I then came up with Ube cheese pandesal,” shared Airra.
Given the situation, sales were overwhelming thru online selling so I added cinnamon rolls after a week, and the following week, I release more than 10 kinds of bread like Pork Floss, Ensaymada, Milky Cheeserolls, etc. Milky Cheeserolls is her best seller available for Php 200 / 10pcs.
“I am really a business-minded person. So whenever I see an opportunity, I don’t think twice. I grab and grab, For me also to succeed, I also accept the failures and keep them as my life lesson experiences,” Airra told me.
How being a flight attendant has helped Airra
Airra believes that being a flight attendant has also helped her succeed as an entrepreneur. Throughout those years of being a flight attendant, Airra has learned a lot about time management, being customer/people-oriented, being a goal setter, being responsible, and most especially how to smile and handle things gracefully even under tight circumstances.
“In every dark situation, always look for hope even the slimmest opportunity. Since baking is my passion, I see to it that I can utilize this strength to build my business and career as an entrepreneur. It is so beautiful when your passion and career come together. It’s true, as per Confucius, ‘find a job that you love and you’ll never have work to a day in your life,” Airra fondly shared with me.
Amidst all these, Airra believes that there is always hope and opportunities hidden in this pandemic. As many flight attendants face uncertainty thinking of what to do should the worse happen, Airra has this message for them:
“I know everyone these days are facing difficulties due to this pandemic, but never lose hope. Learn to appreciate and be contented on what we have now, good or bad, these must be appreciated. God is in control. So I guess whatever we are facing now, we will surely surpass all these. For those who want to be entrepreneur like us, I must say believe in yourself and in your product, listen to your customers feedback, they are the one who will lead you to have better product, price it right and always be sure to deliver beyond expectations.
