Is there still a chance to become a flight attendant in the Philippines?

We recently got a message from an aspirant asking if she still has a chance to become a flight attendant in the Philippines despite the present situation. Well to be honest with it, our answer is a definite “yes” but the only question is when.

Given the current pandemic response of the Philippines, yes we do agree that it may take two to three years until the local airline industry may make a recovery. Of course, we still do face uncertainty but let’s just look at the brighter side of things to remain optimistic.

Will local airlines be hiring flight attendants again?

In reality, it may really take some time before the Philippine aviation industry may recover. However, let us just look at the brighter side of things.

  1. We certainly need aviation because connectivity is a strong economic driver. Leisure travel that fuel the tourism industry, the movement of goods, medical supplies, essential cargo, and of course, air travel for random reasons. So definitely, the ailines will make a rebound.
  2. Once travel demand increases, capacity would need to be increased. Chances are, airlines would need additional manpower, thus, the local airlines would most likely be rehiring cabin crew who were retrenched,
  3. Not all former flight attendants being recalled will take the opportunity to go back. While of course some will definitely say yes, others may already be comfortable with their new jobs, or some may be already flying for airlines in other countries. Now if the local airlines need more cabin crew due to the demand of air travel and the number of recalled cabin crew are not enough, then that would be the time airlines may start hiring from outside.

Grab every opportunity to become a flight attendant, whether in a local or foreign carrier

Then again, the situation is very fluid and things may change, especially here in the Philippines. However, we do also encourage you not to only set your sights to become a flight attendant in the Philippines but to also trying applying at foreign carriers like Qatar Airways, Etihad, Emirates, Saudia, and other international airlines.

The situation of local airlines in the Philippines is very uncertain yet as of now given the present pandemic response. If the opportunity presents itself to you in foreign airlines, go for it! You may still decide to return to the Philippines later on and pursue a cabin crew career in a local airline.

Indeed, you still have that chance to become a flight attendant in the Philippines, but the only question is when. If the opportunity presents itself to become a cabin crew for a foreign airline, then go for it.

Our local airlines do want to return to normal sooner, but it is just sad that they are somehow helpless and are left fighting on their own to continue to serve the country’s interconnectivity needs.

We continue to remain optimistic that all will return to normal where you may happily pursue your flight attendant dream here in the Philippines.
